I've fallen in love with this gorgeous place despite the violent weather encountered all last night, much of today & apparently tonight and tomorrow - joy!
The scenery around here is truly fabulous & there's a real buzz in the little village of St Jean de Sixt.
Despite the rather terrifying start to the day - these storms can be really scary and the last thunderbolt made it sound like all the mountains had split in two - I still managed to pop down into St Jean for my tea & pain au chocolat. Nothing stops me from that! There was a fantastic atmosphere in the cafe bar & I sat happily reading my Kindle (thank you again, PHP!).
A picnic lunch hunkered down in my tent during a cloudburst and then, given the weather changes in a heartbeat, I was able to go for a lovely stroll in the hot sun during the afternoon.
I needed to pop into the pharmacy to show off a rather extreme reaction to an insect bite I suffered on my elbow yesterday. The pharmacist looked rather alarmed and I must admit my eyes popped out my head as my elbow had again doubled in size and now resembled 2 humps of a camel, a big lump overtaking my upper arm and another my lower. She rather doubtfully gave me some cream and said doctor's tomorrow if no better. I asked back at the camp where the docs was and then a debate ensued in rapid fire French, none of which I understood, as everyone wanted a look and it culminated with one of them showing me my arm would need chopping off...!!! I think it will be fine, I'm a quick healer. No arm chopping off this tour.
I hear the rumblings of the next storm. It sounds just like T-Rex on his way in Jurassic Park!! And he is makes his dramatic entrance accompanied by lots of strobe lighting (lightening) and dry ice (cloud). The storms are certainly impressive, it's just the flimsy piece of fabric separating me from them that's the concern!
I hope we're still doing well in the Olympics? And, Donna, fantastic to hear from you today. My energy, what about yours, woman?!!
Look forward to hearing from you all!

Hello Andi! You are brilliant at blogging: i feel I am nearly there! Got back from Geneva last night -wet but no thunder until today in Grassington where we thought we'd take a stroll with Bob: Wet through! I really mean wet through. Enjoyed the beautiful scenery though: so green. Love. T
ReplyDeleteHey there, I've just borrowed someone's iPad so am able to say hello...you look to be having a great adventure still, well done you! Your photos continue to look great. I'm loving my training camp despite having a melt down the day before and a panic attack on the bike yesterday (it was soooo fast !) but it's been fab, brilliant people and I'm sure that there will be tears when I leave...anyway, continued cheers from me coming your way, well done, and I will be back in touch soon!
ReplyDeletePs good work with the pain au raisins, you can never eat too many, am swimming down the river to the local town tomorrow am and have one ordered for my breakfast, yum yum.....
Morning Daughter,
ReplyDeleteYou sound to be having all the exciting weather! I hope the thunderstorms go away for you.The sound must be impressive i should think lots of places to roll around and bounce about.
I hope your arm gets better soon, much better than chopping it off!! Though very kind of them to offer a solution for you!!
Murrey won his gold by beating Federer i was very pleased for him, made me cry!! He got Silver in the mixed doubles with Laura, they very nearly pulled it off to get gold, but it wasn't to be. Still a great day for Team GB though.
My carpet man is coming today with more samples for me. I went into the shop when i was in work last week to pick out a few more samples, can't wait for him to come so i can look at them in the house.
Have a lovely day and i hope your elbow as returned to normal for you.
Lots of love
Mum xx
Hey sis, hoping that this blog makes its way to you as none would post over the weekend. Glad to hear that you are still enjoying the views and the drama that surrounds such beauty. Lancashire was almost sunny over the weekend - of course it still had its little thunderstorms and rain but managed to stay fairly dry.
ReplyDeleteWe popped into pedal power and got ourselves bike helmets - finally! Had a workout with Toby this morning so body still doesn't know if it's gonna be moving tomorrow. He also invited us to the team GB house this evening to socialise with all the athletes - how cool is that! Can't wait,if I see and recognise the cyclists I will say a big congrats from you too!
If the elbow doesn't get any better just ask someone to suck out the poison, I'm sure someone will oblige!! Also tell the insects to go and pick on someone their own size, that should sort them out.
Chat soon Jxx
Just caught up on your last few days Andi, sounds like you are more than rising (quite literally) to any challenge thrown your way. Very inspiring stuff, I hope the storms give you a break...maybe time to treat yourself to a bit of hotel luxury. Looks like the climbs are worth it, some lovely pics...make sure you eat enough pastries, you must be burning calories at a crazy rate of knots.
ReplyDeleteOlympic fever over here....we're doing so well, medals today in ladies gymnastics, show jumping & hopefully a couple more coming from the velodrome shortly :)
Hope the bites have gone down, take care.

Hi Andi
ReplyDeleteHow inspiring are you!! You sound like you are having a really good time and seeing so much of our lovely planet!
You are very much in my thoughts as Nick and I are glued to the TV cycling in the Velodrome and always think of you when any cycling comes on.
We had the most amazing week in our regional gliding competition. The weather was absolutely awesome and we flew all 9 days of the comp. Went back to work with quite a suntan..... but I think we used all the good weather up since it hasn't been up to much since then.
Next break will be a week early in September when we take the glider up to Scotland. We are really looking forward to that and have filled up the oxygen tank in readiness!
Have done five weeks alkaline now and really feeling the benefit but a bit envious of you and all that lovely food over there!
Keep up the good work and stay safe.
